In my opinion, if you're in the same condition but still healthy and though enough, you might consider buying your own individual health insurance plan. Individual plan are less expensive rather than a group plan because it does not have to cover other family members, things like maternity, etc, and typically not subject to as many state & federal mandated benefits. Further, you can choose a plan that fits you better than the more common "one size fits all" of a group plan.
But just to be safe, you may follow some tips. First, choose a trusted or well-known insurance company. There are a lot of plans around that look good and cost less, but remember - you get what you pay for. Second, consider a plan with a higher deductible ($2,500 - $5,000). You will save the monthly cost but still get the two benefits you will use the most: doctor and drug coverage. Third, you might find a local broker specialized in health insurance to help you. Fourth, also if favorable, you can get some quotes online yourself at insurance companies websites. This will give you an idea about what's available at certain cost.
Keep yourself secured with insurance.
